How is the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus different from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus?

WHY SHOULD YOU GO FOR THE NEW IPHONES? HERE YOU’LL FIND ALL THE CONVINCING YOU NEED…

As this phone has been upgraded from the iPhone 6, you won’t find any striking difference between the two, except for the fact that the new iPhone 6S comes in a new Rose Gold color and has a small S written below the ‘iPhone’ on the back.

There’s not much difference in the resolution or the size. However, it is one the key differences between the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus.

The position of the Lock Button on the new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus has been changed and put on the right side of the phone, right next to the sim card slot. This makes it easier to handle the phone, which has a fairly big size.

Form factor wise, one would prefer the one handed iPhone 6S, all day, everyday but as far as watching a good movie or gaming is concerned, Good God is the 6S Plus awesome! Now, you might be wondering what’s different in this new upgrade. Well, there’s a lot that’s been put into it but firstly, let’s talk about Speed!

Inside is Apple’s A9 chip which dishes out iPad Air 2 like speed on a dual core processor. There’s, now also finally 2 gigabytes of RAM which is LONG overdue for you multitasking maniacs! But as far as how that translates into performance and speed tests, let me put it simply…the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus are FAST! Just performing simple tasks like jumping from app to app or multitasking, you’ll notice exactly how speedy and zippy everything is (that is, when you use the phone for real). Now, it might be a little clichéd if I said that that specs aren’t everything but this a prime example of how that fits because even though it is dual core, both the iPhones make a strong case for THE MOST FASTEST PHONES this year!

Now, staying on the theme of speed, the Touch ID on the two phones is crazy fast. I guess you’ve already heard that the Touch ID is too fast according to some users, where you’d normally want to check the check the notifications on the lock screen and once you press that button, it unlocks the phone. Conversely, as a little life hack, if you think that Touch ID is too fast, you might want to touch the button with a nail or a finger that isn’t recognizable to do away with the speed problem!

A forced click on the icon of an application will lead you to internal features of that particular app. This is similar to the Macbook’s FORCED TOUCH

3D TOUCH DISPLAY

Probably the biggest change on the new iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus is the implementation of the 3D TOUCH DISPLAY.  So, what it is, is a pressure sensitive display screen that will react by how hard you press! Don’t confuse it with a long press. You can still do that and move around your apps and then you’re physically pressing the home screen and then it’s reacting.

So, for the moment, it is limited to the core apps on that come inbuilt along with your iPhone and few other applications but it is clearly understandable what works and what doesn’t. Like for example, you can 3D Touch the camera icon and it’ll open up a list of shortcuts (refer to the image on top). The same goes for Messages, Email and even the stock Cock app.

However, if an app doesn’t work, it’s going to shake, vibrate and give you a haptic feedback, saying, “I’m not going to work!” Well, it’s not really going to say that. You’ll have to make that out!

Initially, you might be skeptical about this feature but it’s an amazing addition that comes handy at numerous places. Like, for instance, you can quick check links while web browsing. It also comes handy on Instagram while you can actually preview a profile without having to open it{lower picture on the right).

It might not be all that useful for you right now but as time goes on and app developers take more advantage of this, I’m pretty sure that this feature is going to make a big impact.

Moreover, it’s not just going to be limited to apps and shortcuts because once games implement this, and some of them already have, it’s going to add a completely new flavor as far as mobile gaming goes!

The 3D Touch leads me to next feature that is LIVE PHOTOS and WALLPAPERS. Now, if you are familiar with the iOS environment, you might feel like “OH MY GOD! This is so amazing!” but this might get boring after some time. If you ask me whether they are game changers or not, I’d say ABSOLUTELY not! Yes, you could obviously have fun with these but they are not anything revolutionary or something to hype about.

12.0 MP CAMERAS

The new iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus feature an upgraded 12 megapixel rear iSight shooter.

Yes, indeed! Gone are the days of 8MP cameras. We now have an upgraded 12MP shooter on both the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus. The front camera has also been upgraded from 1.2 MP to 5 MP on both the phones.

As far as image quality goes, it’s as you’d expect on an iPhone, as one thing the iPhone does really well, (emphasize on really) is take photos! Yes, it cannot create sharp or saturated pictures, like on Samsung Galaxy S6 but it does manage to retain the naturalness of the photo as it has an excellent dynamic range! Though most people would not be able to tell the difference between the 8 and 12MP shooters but it’s a good thing to have the extra bit of detail in your pictures.

Here’s another demonstration of the differences in the cameras of the old iPhone 6 and the new iPhone 6S.

Now, there’s also 4K video recording on the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus. There aren’t many differences between the 6S and the 6S Plus, apart from size but when it comes to video recording, the big difference between the two, is Optical Image Stabilization, where the 6S Plus has it and the 6S does not!

4K videos is one of the main reasons you would want to pick up an iPhone for and you would want to lean more towards the iPhone 6S Plus because the Optical Image Stabilization is really helpful.

On top of that, it is pretty safe to say that apple has the best slow motion recording as far as smartphone cameras go!

Battery Life

Following the awesome video features on the iPhone, now let’s talk about the battery life and I think that it’s no secret, if you’re all about all day battery, the 6S Plus is the easy choice. The iPhone 6S has around 1700 mAh battery whereas, the 6S Plus has a whooping battery size of 2700 mAh! Thus, though the iPhone 6S might have a hard time making through the day, the iPhone 6S Plus would make it through quite easily.

Storage

Now, there’s one WTF element in these phones and that is the storage. It’s 2015 and the iPhone starts out with just 16 gigabytes! Ultimately what it comes down to and it’s sad but the real reason why they have a 16 gigabytes iPhone is so you are more enticed to go for the 64 gigabytes version of both the phones and that up to a bigger hole in your wallet!

To wrap it all up, I’d say that both the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus are THE BEST smartphones of 2015. And thought the 6S Plus is a better option in every possible way, personally speaking, I would sacrifice battery life and go for the form factor, the iPhone 6S because I really like the one handed operation.

Well, that brings us to the end. Hopefully, you’ve found this helpful and I’m expecting to see a hike in the number of iPhones on road!
